Solid Granite Turntables from Scotland
The Company

Sonik Sircle was formed in 1999 with the sole aim of developing a high end turntable, based on provisional design ideas which were first laid down 9 years earlier by the company's owner, Ray Casey.

The main design criterion was to eliminate the audio flaws inherent in some other designs by removing them from the equation. While most designs try to control these flaws in a number of novel and exotic ways, our approach is to start by using materials which do not exhibit these weaknesses. Although the final appearance of the turntable was not a priority in the design, the choice of materials dictated by the above points has produced a finished product with stunning looks and feel.

The Mil3 turntable is the company's first product, and is the result of over two years concentrated development work. The natural materials used for the plinth and platter of the Mil3 dictate that manufacture of each unit is very much a 'hands on' affair, requiring the precision machining of a number of individually matched components unique to each turntable. This constraint, coupled with the size of the company, means that each turntable is a unique product, made to order for the individual customer.

The cost of the component parts of the Mil3 is significantly higher than those used in a number of comparative turntables. Precision worked granite, for example, is much more expensive than MDF board or acrylic sheet. Another high-value component is the dynamically balanced brushless DC motor with active closed loop control circuitry, which in turn necessitates the use of a sophisticated external stabilised DC power supply. In spite of the high input costs, we are able to market the Mil3 within the same price range as some turntables that use relatively inexpensive materials or construction methods. This is achieved by keeping the company and its overheads small.

As a small company we look to work with each customer on a one too one basis. This ensures that our customers purchase and own a very personal product supported by all the information and advice they may require.
