PEATBOG FAERIES - Mellowosity
Based on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, the current lineup of the Peatbog Faeries has been together for approximately three years. In those three years the band has played extensively in the North of Scotland, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. Their musical influences, however, are derived from all over the world. Three of the band recently travelled to Japan, stopping off in India on the way back, where piper Peter Morrison had the inspiration to write the "Manili Beetle" (includedon the album). This tune, as do the others on the album, highlights the many musical influences present in the band, which take them from traditional jigs and reels through to jazz, hip-hop and even reggae. The album features original tracks from the pen of Peter Morrison with one or two traditional arrangements in the Peatbogs' own style. The superb pipes and fiddle of Peter Morrison and Ben Ivitsky respectively are complemented by some great grooves from the bass of Innes Hutton and the drums of Ian Copeland, and are further enhanced by the attack of Ally Pentland's guitar and some great keys from Norman 'sounds' Austin.
Taking the music in yet another direction, this eagerly awaited debut album from the Peatbog Faeries hopes to spread the spirit of its title far and wide, leaving the listener itching to dance as well as giving breathing space to chill out.

The Peatbog Faeries are Peter Morrison (pipes and whistles); Ben Ivitsky (fiddle); Ali Pentland (guitar); Norman Austin (synthesizer and keyboards); Innes Hutton (bass and bodhran); Iain Copeland (drums and percussion).
The album was released on the 1st December 1996. The Faeries played the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 31st Jan 1997 as part of the Celtic Connections Festival.
